What follows are the conventions used for text transcription, XML-TEI encoding, and data entry.

Text Transcription

In the transcriptions of the works, the following issues are modernized without marking them in the text:

  • We adopt modern accents. E.g. despues > después, prinçipes > prínçipes, á > a, etc.
  • We add accents even if followed by pronouns. Ej. criólo, mostróse
  • When they are consonants, we normalize the use of u/v, e.g. seruidores > servidores, caualgador > cavalgador, and  i / j, e.g. meior > mejor, conseio > consejo, Iohan > Johan
  • Use of n / ñ. ej. planir > plañir, annos > años
  • We simplify double consonants at the begining of word (ff-, ss-, rr-), E.g. rromanos > romanos
  • We adopt the modern use of capital letters (people, places names, etc.). Ej. la diere Aquel > la diera aquel, enrique el terçero > Enrique el Terçero
  • Modern joining and splitting of words, e.g. çierta mente > çiertamente, aun que > aunque
  • In some rare cases, if the punctuation differs a lot from the modern use, we can modify it (e.g. innecesary punctuation, such as a punctuation mark (full stop) after a question mark, or question marks in parenthesis).

In general we keep all other linguistic features:

  • Use of ç
  • v is always kept such as in cavallero, ovo, deleitava, ...
  • spelling of learned words with ph, ch, and double intervocalic consonants (-ff-, -cc-, -mm-, -rr-), e.g. philosophía, peccado, commo, Ysrrael, desonrra
  • common errors (even if they are misleading), e.g. biuia > bivía, boluer > bolver
  • Use of conjunction e (equivalent to the coordinating y)
  • etymological f, e.g. fijo, ...
  • spelling fluctuations, e.g. reyno - reino
  • pronouns and articles with prepositions, e.g. destos, dellos, etc.

In the transcription of the text, the different line break hyphens will not be marked (se-/paración > separación). If a word is divided into two different pages, it is kept on the first page, and the page number is indicated afterwards.

If there are clear errors (mostly typographical), we correct them in the encoding using <choice>,  <sic> for the error, and <corr resp="#"> for the correction, e.g. tau > tan

We indicate page numbers of the edition in use, but we do not transcribe footnotes.

 

Guidelines for Text Encoding

1.  Encabezado del documento o teiHeader

a. fileDesc

  • fileDesc contiene toda la información del archivo digital
  • titleStmt > title: Nombre de la biografía
  • titleStmt > author: el autor de la biografía acompañado de su @xml:id
  • titleStmt > respStmt > resp: Encoded by + persName con la referencia a un identificador <persName ref="#SAT">Susanna Allés-Torrent</persName>

b. revisionDesc
Aquí van los datos de las intervenciones sobre el fichero digital. El primer cambio contiene la creación del fichero y de la primera versión en XML-TEI. A medida que se vayan incorporando modificaciones, debe anotarse aquí, siempre con mención de responsabilidad y al interno de un elemento <change>

2. Texto <text>

  • text: el elemento <text> debe llevar un identificador con @xml:id y @xml:lang. Debe emplearse el mismo que el nombre del archivo.
  • body > head: título tal y como aparece en la edición original
  • body > p: estructuración de párrafos

b. Nombres de persona

  • persName: los nombres de persona, estén en una forma estándar o no se marcarán con esta etiqueta.
  • Los títulos nobiliarios y similares pueden marcarse dentro del nombre de persona <roleName>

c. Linajes

  • name: cuando se refiere a dinastías o linajes en general, por ej. "los Mendoza".

d. Nombres de lugar

3. Cuestiones relativas a la edición utilizada

a. Añadidos del editor

<add resp="#DBordona">[boca]</add>

b. Errores
Cuando nos encontramos delante de un error evidente cometido por el editor, lo podemos corregir con <choice> <sic> y <corr> y señalando la responsabilidad de quien lo corrige:

oviese <choice><sic>tan</sic><corr resp="#SAT">tan</corr></choice> singular poder

c. Modernización del texto

Este tipo de marcado servirá para ofrecer una versión en español moderno:

d. Cambio de página

Los cambios de página de la edición original pueden indicarse de la siguiente manera. Por ejemplo, si se trata de la edición de Bordona:

Puede situarse fuera de cualquier elemento (no dentro de `head`o `p`), es decir, como hijo de `body` cuando se trata del principio de la biografía. También puede encontrarse al interno de un párrafo.

e. Cambio de columna

Los cambios de columna se marcan con <cb> y el @n: <cb n="2"/> Si una palabra se corta por un guión, la transcribirmos en la página o columna en la que empieza.

e. Notas al texto

Las notas a pie de página se sitúan en el pie de página, depués del <body>:
